Replacement circuit board light kit for Carrera

Postby k0z0oo1 » Sat Nov 21, 2015 10:09 pm

I have been toying around with the idea of making a replacement circuitboard for a Carrera digital chip. It would be for analog tracks and have the same plugs as the Carrera chip for the headlights and tail lights, so it would be a direct replacement. It would include a capacitor to keep the lights on even when the car has stopped after running enough to charge it and a functioning break light circuit.

Is there any interest in such an item? I may consider prototyping this of there is.

Yes, I have a number of Carrera cars and race analog on wood. I would love to see a chip that would allow clip in lights and working brake lights like on the digital cars. Sign me up for the beta.

I'm interested. I thought it was a dirty trick that Carrera stopped having lights in cars that weren't equipped with the new gadget. I have no interest at all in that digital stuff, yet to get lights on some cars, I had to pay extra. If your idea works and I can afford it, I'll buy yours, set my cars up and sell the useless chips to a digital guy.

Not racing digital, but still wanting lights is what started me down this path... I would leave the digitsl board in place, but i use dead strips on my track and the digital board sometimes does not allow a lap to count.

Next question for you guys, wuld you want this to clip into the motor wiring, or to be soldered to the motor? Well, I guess I could make it both ways...

By attaching to the motor wires, you gain versatility of placement. In 1/32nd, sometimes space is vitally important under the body.

Always interested in lighting stuff but...to date, cost has always been the issue. Most kits for lighting run $15+, and the difference between the lighted Carrera D132 and regular cars is around $13.
Plus, you would have to install etc.
If I could find something that I could install for around $6 to $8, I'd put it in every car!
LEDS have come down a lot in price over the last few years - maybe?
Hope it is possible :twocents-mytwocents:

Well, I'm talking about taking a digital car that already has lights, and replacing the digital board with a new board. It would be around $15 or so, just because of the cost to make the boards on a "small" scale...

There is a cheaper way to light them, but it is all DIY and not plug and play
