Indy Bob visit

Postby mattb » Sun Dec 06, 2015 3:53 pm

Had time to visit Bob yesterday and run a few cars. Actually Indy Bob is New Salsbury Bob and lives about 15-20 minutes from me. I was able to drive right to his house as he is in a very familiar area to me. He's done a great job building his new track. He has a dedicated racing room and has a nice area for his track and cars. We ran a little of everything and I brought a box of 1/24 stuff from at home. My Indy cars were right at home on his track.

Looking forward to having Bob as a guest racer on one of our 1/24 home racing nites.

I think his wife was surprised there was somebody else in Indiana that played with slot cars. Just not a lot of us and we don't get much publicity!!

Glad you guys were able to get together! Lots of wives think that, I suspect........who else plays with toy cars??
But there are lots of folks in their basements and garages......finding and connecting is always the tough part. Keep running them!

Paul knows, he has been a basement racer since back in the early days of the AOL slot racing board which was part of the AOL hobby discussion group back in the early days of AOL before there were any slot car forums on the internet. I think that group had about 15-20 members. Does that sound about right Paul? What year do you think we started the first 132 forum? It was a direct offshoot of the AOL message boards and set up by Dave England, another basement racer!

Well.....Dave had done VSRN back in the early 90s. I guess I got involved in the TMAS message boards back in the mid to late 90s. So it's been a few years. I know TMAS was small but got big; I still have a car from Russel Sheldon from back then, and Rob Evans motors still run several cars (including a ROAR entry0 and Mulsanne Mike and several others.
