Painting a Fly Porsche

I have this car, but it needs a different livery.


I have nothing against Playboy, it's just that having a car in a time travel race from 1970 that has a tribute to Miss June 1995 is a bit problematic. It could cause a time paradox. It could get me into therapy for worrying about having an out of sync toy car in an imaginary racing series from decades past. A simple solution is to change the livery to something period correct, such as:

Point is, I think I could get away with a flat coat of paint that wouldn't look to bad, but stripes etc. would have to come from decals. Does anyone make 1/32 scale decals of these cars? Has anyone repainted a Fly car? Given how great they look it probably isn't done too often.

Gameover - would you consider making some decals for the Gulf Porsche above? Numbers on white roundels, orange with dark blue border center stripe, and a few Gulf emblems.

Pattos decals from Australia has a bunch of 917 decals to choose from and Jim Heller has about four liveries.

I wouldnt mind making some. But it wont be until the 6th as im leaving for shotgun daves on wednesday. I might even have a few left from when i painted bob taylors escort.

Slothead, why would you use flat paint?

What I meant was just put on a solid base coat of Robin's Egg Blue, or something similar, and not try to tape off anything to paint on the orange strip. I didn't mean to say 'flat' as in not using a gloss paint.

I'm going to check out Pattos and Heller decals. As soon as I know I can get some the redoing of the Playboy livery will begin.

FYI - I don't intend to take out the interior and windows, I'll tape them up along with the engine cover and hope for the best. If the new livery doesn't live up to expectations I may just go for the best reasonably priced Gulf-Porsche I can find online.

Five minutes with Dave, and you'll be a better painter, masker, etc. He's a pro. He did it for a living for years, after all... on 1:1 cars!
