grrrrr....

Postby epowr » Sat Jan 23, 2016 4:42 pm

As posted in my "new cars" thread I mentioned my new Carrera cars just driving out of the track slots in he crossover sections. I was told to put the red keels in, I did and everything was going pretty good. Well, now the red keels are still working fine in the crossovers, but now neither color like the inside curves now. Its kinda weird, they ran fine for a while then all the sudden they started just driving out of the slots coming into the turn on the insides track only. Don't matter if we are coming in fast or slow. Any thoughts?

Carrera keels are a little long for some track brands turns. Take one of the cars and push it unpowered through the offending turn while trying to feel for any "binding". If you feel any you may have to shave either the length or the thickness of the keel. Keep in mind your SCX track is MUCH narrower than Carrera and the turns may be a bit too tight. It does not seem to bind it actually seems to go through it just fine. But, but, it also seems at the track joints that the track seems to rise just a little bit. I am going to do some testing for it though. Also, watching the cars run on the track they seem to bounce rapidly - do all of them do that?

Ok - that's it! That's the deal. On the inside track right at the track joint the cars are rising just enough to allow the keel to just clear the groove, just for a split second, but that is why it is happening. Any fixes for that?

If you line the front tires up on an SCX and a Carrera the leading edge of the SCX keel is a good distance farther forward than the Carrera. So by the time the SCX cars front tires hit the joint rise the keel has already passed and is back in the groove. I have got to figure out how to take the track rise out at the joint.

So, another thing I find is coming into the turn at the track joint, the right front tire and the left rear tire are off the track. We had the elevated turn supports in use, I took those out and it got better and then I held the track down tight to the floor and it did even better. I can see where mounting it down permanently to a board should help a lot.

When my cars want to fly instead of stay on the track it is usually in the brushes in how I have them set up. This happens quite often when the Grand-kids are around for they inadvertently back up the cars which makes the brushes raise the car in the front so I just readjust them with a flip in the back like the old Eldon Booklet instructed.

I know what your talking about there; my grandson (4) is a terror on these poor cars. I do realign the brushes but just by my finger pushing them back in shape - is there a more better way?

to fix the track you need to take it apart and flip the problem section over and look were they attached the metal rail to the plastic track. 99% sure you will find the crimp has come loose allowing the rail to raise up. use some needle nose and a flat tip screw driver to re crimp the rail.

One other thing - the track works good when you are running a car on both tracks; but if you are only trying to run one car - it seem sporadic, like power, no power, power, no power.... the car will make it around but it just ain't smooth or right? What's that from?

One of the characteristics of plastic track is that there is an electrical connection at every joint. Most electrical conductivity issues with plastic track originate when there is not good contact at the joints. This is especially noticeable when you introduce elevation changes in your track layout. This, of course, would happen whether one or two cars where racing though. Either way, check your connections carefully.

Hopes this helps out.
