Melting Carrera tires

Yea... I second what bobbyraz49 asked, I live in Buffalo also and have never heard of them.....

Probably has nothing to do with temperature/humidity. Some plastics have reactions with other plastics over time. The original poster mentioned the car was in the box. It is possible that the tires touching the base had some sort of chemical reaction over time. I've seen this with non-slot products.

Natural rubber is not stable, unless it is formulated correctly it can turn rock hard or turn to slush. Charles Goodyear got a patent for vulcanizing rubber in 1844, the folks that make tires for Carrera should probably take note. I have 50 year old rubber tires that are still in good shape. It has been reported that when cars with rubber tires that fell apart were left parked on plastic track that they made ruts in the plastic. If the car was stored in a jewel box the inside of the box got fogged up.

It happens. Happens to all brands. Carrera has changed the formula over the years and the latest C7R has excellent properties and provides pretty decent grip. Since it's basically new, no way of knowing the shelf life.

I have a wall of Carrera that has many cars 12 to 15 years or older. All of them fine. Then a couple Can-Am models that have had the tire issue.

Almost all of my older Fly Classics are cracked or exhibit the same issues as described. Most of the tires that turned hard or "melted" are ones that I have heavily sanded (heated) to round them out.
