My company had a plant in Rochester and I had to go there from time to time. Getting from Cheshire CT to Rochester by air was not much faster than just driving there and since I would have had to rent a car in Rochester anyway I just rented a car in CT and drove to Rochester. It has been a number of years, but I did visit Fantasy Raceways whenever I got a chance, usually I brought my cars. The track is an Ogilvie hillclimb. While you are in the area be sure to stop by the Dinosaur Barbecue, get there early, the place is very popular.

I lived in Rochester, NY for 5 years while in grad school at Univ. of Rochester, but even though I've been into slot cars for decades never visited the place. Probably a good thing or I might have never completed my research and earned my degree. But, I've always heard good things about the place. That part of NY has a great short track racing history, both asphalt and dirt. When I raced at a commercial track in downstate NY a bunch of us always had a series going for replicas of our dirt track heroes and for hard plastic 1/24th scale NASCARs. I would expect the same at Fantasy Speedway.

I agree about Dinosaur BBQ - good food and blues music. Your apt to see their small lot packed with motorcycles but there is on the street parking and it's a lively fun place to go for anyone.

The business recently changed hands. Some remodeling is taking place. There's a dragstrip and a 140-ft Ogilvie Hillclimb for the 1/24 racing programs. I've run some 1/32 cars on the Hillclimb and it's OK. The power is 13.5 volts @ about 80 amps +/- a few. They are in the middle of setting up a TKO HO track on a 16 x 8 (I think) table. 1/24 racing takes place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. There is no HO racing yet. They're open from 5pm to 9pm Tuesday thru Friday. 1pm to 9pm Saturday. They're closed Monday and Sunday. The owner is Jeff and the phone is 585-621-1373.

Fitzy,

Low is the word... meaning LOW. The rules say that you can't cut into the top surfaces of the body... and the hardbody racers have taken that to heart. Wheel wells typically stop just short of the top fender line. And while the rules require front and rear "glass" to be in place, the frontrunners have replaced the typical model kit windows with .010" Lexan or, in extreme cases, clear packing tape. It's also a good idea to put a few grams of lead weight in the nose. There's a photo of a winning chassis on the Fantasy Raceways Facebook page for reference.
