I have an adjustable power supply that I am using on a carerra analog control unit. How much power can the analog control unit handle ? I know it comes with a 14 volt transformer , but I like to kick the power up from time to time on my 1/24 digital cars.

There's no such thing as an analog control unit. There is a power base track piece but it cannot do anything digital (which you mention) so it's a little confusing what you're talking about specifically. the analog power base can handle at least 18 volts but the amperage is the issue. you don't want to run high amp draw motors/cars or it will have so much current going through it that the wires will unsolder. If you're talking about the digital control unit you must NOT adjust the power with the power supply but adjust it with the control unit's ability to lower/raise the speed to the cars as the function of the digital system itself. Also if you use the digital system with less than 14volts the lane changes won't work correctly. But until it's clear if you're talking about actual analog use (which doesn't use anything technically called the "control unit" or if you're talking about digital which does use something technically called the "control unit") then it's hard to answer the question exactly... and it does matter.

OK , so I have an analog power base. I am using stock cararra 132 and 124 cars. The 124 are digital , but they will run on the analog track. And I am not doing anything digital , I just want to run the 124 cars over 14 volts sometimes. I have no idea about amperage. I just want to turn the adjustable power supply to 18 volts without frying the power base. Hope this helps you understand what I am asking. And thanks for the reply.

Digital Racing Solutions offers a 30K snap-in motor for the 1:24 cars that will pick them right up on 14V.

If you have an adjustable power supply the ultimate solution is to dump the set type wiring and connect directly to the track. You would have to build or buy controller hookups and you would have to either add alligator clips to the set controllers or buy aftermarket controllers.
Sets come with small power supplies, the are good for an amp at most. If something goes wrong there will not be enough power available to do much damage. If you use an aftermarket power supply with plenty of amps available you can burn up a controller, a car motor, the track wiring or even damage the track itself if you don't include the correct fuses or circuit breakers.
