Update -- This weekend I swapped the pods between the GT 40 and the notorious 917. Instantly the 917 ran better, not perfect, but 80% better. The GT 40 ran poor with the 917 pod. Next, I switched the motors in the pods - really not change (although I do feel the 917's motor has a little more power, I do not have a tach). Next I will play around with weight etc.

The 917 still does not run like when the Thunderslot chassis is taped into it......., and it still can't beat my Slot.it Mclaren M8D.

Thanks for all the help!

Agree with RichD.

I tubed my front axle and glued into place so the front tires just touch, that was after truing the front rims, gluing on the front tires and retruing, then coating with nail polish then a quick retrue.

For the backs, I have Urethane (standard PG formula), glued only around the outside and inside of the raised rims to allow the tires to expand. Retrued of course. Used the standard tire size and width. Take your time with the tire truing, that’s alone if done right will have good oor bad consequences. Try to keep the heat down, I use ice water for wet true. Then polish the, with fine sanding sticks to long lasting grip. Th epilishing sometimes is done in waves, after 30-40 laps per use, and can take 3-4 hours in total...but worth it!

Sanded pod and edges of chassis (make sure it is flat and if not, bake it flat). Glued in rear bushings after aligning the rear axle I tom the bushings so it falls through. Taped the pod, with the pod screws back off 3/4 turn. Weight inside on pod about 5.5 with 1.5 gr also on each edge/per side up against motor just in front of rear wheels.

Body screws slightly backed off. Braid lays flat with slight curl at end.....and it is an absolutely rocket. Holds most of the track records in our club. :music-rockout:

I know people talk about Thunderslot being in their own category, and people used to say the same about NSR when they first came out. But honestly, between those two along with some time invested for a well sorted Slot.it you can have them all very comparable. Check out the Slot.it McLaren M8D, or the Alfa.

Hope that helps.
