Which Controller

Postby indybob009 » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:31 am

Hi all' been gone for a while' But starting to build a new track' I use Carrera' I have tons of it. It will be 4 lane analog' My old Parma controllers are just getting worn out. I have done all I can to keep them working. But most are 20 years old at least. What would be a good controller' not to expensive to get. Most of mind are 35 45 ohm. I mostly run Carrera' Scalextrix' slot-it cars at 13v. I used to get allot of my stuff at Hot Slots but their gone. Thanks for any ideas.

OS3, great controller at a good price. Sensitivity, brake and choke control. Check them out at onestopslotshop.

I have to agree totally about the PM (Professor Motor) controllers. I bought 2 inexpensive electronic ones about 10 years ago and they are going strong. The electronic ones have a series of individual resistors rather than one barrel resister and run cooler in my opinion. Mine came with Scalextric plugs on them to connect directly to the Powerbase. I'm sure you can get ones ready to go for Carrera track.

The PM controller looks just like what I would want. Decent price also. Thanks a bunch. Indybob

I have an OS3 controller that I use with HO cars, probably it will also work well with 1/32nd cars, but I would not want to buy four of them. For people on a budget new Parma Economy controllers are once more available. Replacement parts, like resistors and wiper buttons are also available to rebuild old Parma controllers. Professor Motor does have his own line of resistor controllers as does DS. The old diode based Professor Motor electronic controllers have been replaced with a series of transistorized models, those would be a step up from a resistor based controller. If you were thinking about buying new electronic controllers it would be nice if you could try one out with your own track and cars.

Hi Bob, if you need, I have a Parma controller that has the plug for Carrera. I don't use it as I have wired stations now.
It's practically new.
PM me if interested, $20 shipped to you. If Bob doesn't need it, same offer to anyone that needs one.
thanks

Thanks zfan for the offer but I want to try one of the PM ones. I use alligator clips on my wiring station also. I use those 20v 10amp MG power packs. I use 2 of them for 4 lanes. Thanks guys.

I've run the PM 2053 for over 15 years w/o any problems. It has variable sensitivity and brake controls and is versatile enough to run anything.
We ran a high power magnet car enduro with S16D's on a Windsor and the PM controller literally melted down but continued to perform flawlessly.
Andy Smith is to be congratulated for producing such an outstanding product at an affordable price.

If you are contemplating an electronic controller you should be aware that they can be fussy about how your track is wired. Sets all use the negative polarity wiring scheme and PM has controllers that will just plug into the set connections. The majority of electronic controllers are made for the positive polarity wiring scheme that is used with most club style tracks. A few controllers can be used with either wiring scheme, either by flipping a switch or by changing a couple of connections. Resistor controllers all work with either style of wiring.

This is what we use here. Professor Motor PMTR2110 "Low Voltage Scale Racer PRO" Electronic Controller. We run at 10v. Have only had one issue in many, many years. Last weekends race got interrupted due to the brake pot on one of the controllers started acting up. We have extras here just in case, so it was a quick fix. A word to the wise if you want your controllers to last. Clean wiper/contact with CRC QD. We also spray out the pots with QD. Use a light lube on the triggers/knobs. And here's a biggie! Turn all dials on controllers back to zero before powering off!! Any problems, send them back to PM, and they will handle it accordingly. Highly recommend these controllers, affordable and consistent.
