As Reinecke and I have both found, doing a good job you are proud of on a white kit assures that somebody puts it out as RTR the next week.

Guys (and gals),

I've tried to look at the pictures of these white versions carefully for some time, since they've floated around this year. While I can see a roll bar in the white Cougar, I am not so certain that it Is a racing figure behind the wheel (the provision of lights also makes me suspicious). When I've looked at the white version of the Challenger, it appears much more apparent to me that it's a street driver. I've heard no one else comment on this one way or the other.

Does anyone know if both these white cars have racing figures to match their interiors? If not, then I am dumbfounded why they release them like this. There may be a handful of people who only want to paint these in some street version (no offense intended if any of you all are some of those), but I presumed the bulk of the American market would be for those of us who repaint (and re-decal, from places like Tim or Patto, for example) to make other racers for our grids. If they have roll bars but no racing figures, they make less sense to me than their version of the Dodge Daytona (I know that is quite a statement). I am SO glad they came out with these cars, and they generally look acceptable to me and should blend in well with the rest of our vast Scalextric Trans Am fields, but I would sure like to save ten bucks to buy extras of the white cars to paint, if they have racing drivers. Otherwise, where are we practically to go to replace the drivers (other than spend most of the ten bucks saved to buy aftermarket drivers that were not designed for these cars)?

Somebody please tell me my paranoid suspicions are wrong, and my concerns are unfounded.

An awful lot of Street cars around here have roll bars. But I'm sure Scaley does
whatever is cheapest for 'White Kits'.

Mike,

It appears to be a racing driver to me:

Not definitive, but I think it does show him with a dark colored helmet...which would make sense as it is Gurney's car.

Also, if you look at all of the previously released white cars - they were all racing drivers with Mr. Blobbyhead.

Thank you for responding, Jesla and Dave. I've been thinking that I'm the only person on the boards who cared if the white racing cars have racing drivers for repaints.

Dave, I hear your circumstantial arguments, but here are some of my mine to suggest that they will have street drivers:

1. The White Cougar has rear street exhausts, unlike the Gurney car.
2. The white one has a big street side mirror, unlike the small racing ones on the Gurney car.
3. The white car is advertised as having headlights and taillights, unlike the Gurney car.
4. The driver's hands appear to be bare in the street car (although you can't see his head).
5. If the murky picture suggests a black helmet, which would be "right" for a Gurney car, why is it not black in the actual painted Gurney car? (I think they make their white kits "all white" now anyway)
6. It appears to be apparent from Scaley's promotional shots that the Challenger white car clearly has a street driver:

7. The white Charger that they released earlier also had a street driver.

I will bet they both have street drivers, which stymies any advantages I would want to have to buy them to repaint and add to my racing field, and I don't know why Scalextric thought it was a good idea to put street drivers in them (by the way, they did put a racing driver in the white Volkswagen(!)).

Of course, Scalextric may fool all of us with bogus early promotional shots, and look totally different when we get them (i.e., see the Dodge Charger Daytona), and I have not been able to find out from any retailer or anyone else in the field about this issue. I bought them "blind" from Power Slot Cars online today, because I heard they were going fast, but this was the car I have been waiting for all year, and I hate to buy uninformed, particularly when I have tried to do my "due diligence" online beforehand.

Hmm...carp. You may be right. I figured the exhaust can come off. Depending on the body of the figure it might work with just a driver head change...which I can help with.

Thank, Dave. Could you make it a Blobby-Head, so it matches the others? (You can use mine as a model, and if the heads wiggles back and forth, all the better)

Can't they at least chrome the chrome parts if they're going to do this, so we don't have to mess with foil or ugly "silver" paint?

Scalex put racing drivers in more things than they do street drivers. I think you are worrying needlessly. Besides, you have to strip it down to repaint it. Changing driver head is a piece of cake.

Unless they are in street clothes...then it looks a little off.

Race driver figures are a dime a dozen, it's the street drivers which seem to be hard to get as spares, I tried to find one for my mad max interceptor, I think there'd be plenty of slotters who would be happy to swap, I'd like to swap, but the postage to and from the US to Australia, would make it a bit pricey :D

I hope the racecar when it arrives doesn't have those street pipes.

What if they put the same Nazi officers in the interior that Pink Kar used?

What if they use Santa, or Baby Jesus like Carrera did?

They may even use the same guys as Carrera just did with that Yello Cobra thing...
