A couple of questions about Scalelextric Camaros

I am new to 1/32 Slot Car Racing and have been racing with a group in Virginia that races magnet assisted cars and this Saturday I am going to West Virginia to check out a group that runs non mag cars. Both groups run a TransAm class on basically stock cars and I have chosen Scalextric Camaros as my car of choice for both groups. I have four of these cars, two the 69 style and two the 71 style, while taking these cars apart I noticed a difference in the chassis of the two. The 69 seems to have larger openings on the bottom of the chassis for the magnets and three positions where the 71 has smaller openings and only one position. My plan is to use the two 69s for magnet racing the two 71s for the non mag group. Does anybody know why Scalextric made the change and what are your ideas on my thought process.

You made a good choice for starting to get the feel of this scale. The Camaros are among the easiest to tune, and very satisfying to run in competition. When you get on my track, you'll be gratified by what you can do with them.

I would follow that advice. Although both mine are non-magnet, the 69 is a terror box stock on plastic.

Welcome to HRW! Ted was kind enough to point out my article, which is fairly radical. However, I will NEVER look back on tuning these cars this way. They are a real joy to drive now!
