Any hint of hop from the anglewinder? If there is any at all on your plastic track, it might be a tough car for the wood track crowd.

I have a Mirage, Lotus, Porsche and all have the angle winder set up. I race on routed tracks and this can be made into good running non magnet cars. Because we race on short tight road courses
We dumped the orange motor and replaced it with the Slot-it flat 6 motor. No signs of wheel hop in any of them and they all with run with any slot-it cars in their class. I did not like their independent front wheel set up as the wheels shuddered to much in the turns. So I replaced it with a solid independent front axle set up. This worked much better for me...

One of the guys in our group set a Lotus up stock with the orange motor and silicone tires and on the 150 foot routed track it is a screamer and has taken on the best Slot-it with the Flat 6R motor and the NSR Mosler's with their stock high torque motors and killed them..

The Avant's are very good cars.

I thought I would give the Kremer Porsche a try after good success with the Mirage which has the same anglewinder chassis/motor pod design, torquey 27k orange Hurricane boxer motor and gearing.

I've modded it for Luf's Targa Burnaby wood track that has major elevation changes with a solid front axle and a switch to the hard green chassis and motor pod but it just can't touch my Mirage with a stock chassis. I've got fatter tires on the latter, so that may be a factor. I'll play more with the body and motor pod screws.

In any case the classic and modern Avant Lemans prototypes (Peugeot, Pescarolo) are some of my favorite cars with a little bit of work.

Well I just returned from a day of fun . . . . . slot car racing fun that is.

I headed on over to DeBary Glen Raceway this AM and we spent the day telling tales, spinning jokes and yeah, also racing slot cars. It was truly an enjoyable day.

During the course of the day, ModlerBob asked me to give his Avant Slot Kremer Porsche a bit of a wringing out. I think he really wanted to see which was faster, the Avant Slot Kremer Porsche or the Black Arrow Aston Martin DB9. I really didn't pay any attention to which car won, but I sure did have fun running that Avant Slot Kremer Porsche around the track. Kind of makes me wish my Avant Slot Mirage GR8 were here already.

ModlerBob did a great job setting up the car. He did away with the press on rear wheels and added a set of Slot.It set screw aluminum hubs with Paul Gage tires on the rear of the Porsche. The front wheels, just so ever lightly touch the surface of the MDF as the car is running and he even incorporated some pod movement along with some body movement. I was able to really push the car deep into the turns, then as it was settling down, start to throttle up and the car just grabbed a hold of the track and powered out of the turn and down the straights. It was very satisfying.

I'm sure when the Mirage arrives, I can get it setup to run with, or even preferably in front of the Kremer Porsche. Only time will tell.

Thanks for all the driving time on the Avant Slot today.

I also drove the new? Arrow Slot BMW V12 with the Avant Slot Kremer Porsche and they are very evenly matched with victory going to the driver making the fewest mistakes. There are a lot of good new fast cars on the market now and I think we have slot.It and NSR to thank for raising the bar.

Wow those rails have a nice collection of rust on them Bob. Just crank up the voltage, it'll be fine. :D Like an old country railway line that hasnt had any locos run down the line for quite a few years. Did someone say Inox?

Well, the Porsche finally ran last weekend and until a BIG shunt and stopping out on the track, it gave me the confidence to run it as hard as I run my Slot.it Lola and it turned the same times as the Lola. So, guys, if want an alternative brand in your Le Mans class, then this is a very competent replacement. The most difficult part of the setup is to set the front wheels perfectly with their three grub screws each, being independent of each other.

One of the few places on this car where they opted for cheaper parts is the rear bushings which are nylon and the rear axle was very sloppy. With the stock motor in place I was getting some wheel hop until I used the CA trick on the bushings. Having a motor this strong I realised it would only be a matter of time until the problem returned so I ordered a set of slotting plus bushings. Now that they are installed the car glides around the corners without the hop. I also went to an 11 tooth pinion replacing the stock 10 tooth on Marty's advice.
