Yep, Dodge Chargers were a very cool car back in the day. The body shape was something very attractive and of course you could fit them with the potent Hemi engine. In 1969 the Charger 500 and Charger Daytona came out and you could own your own supercar built in Detroit.
My fondness though was with the A body Mopars, which later became the F body cars. The 'Cuda was and remains my favorite car.
Dad owned a 64 Barracuda. 273 2 bbl with an automatic. Black with gold interior. He and Mom loved that car and had it many years.
I bought a 66 Barracuda, Formula "S" car. 273 4 bbl with a 4 speed and special suspension. All part of the Formula "S" package.
After returning from overseas I bought a 71 'Cuda. 440 6 bbl car with 4 speed. What a beast! I loved it and thank God gas was only 36¢ back then. First car I ever owned where you could watch the gas gauge actually move at wide open throttle! It got 9 mpg on a good day with a tail wind while heading down a long hill.
My wife surprised me one day with a 67 'Cuda fastback. I rebuilt the engine and trans and had it ready for the road shortly before my right hip had to be replaced. After the surgery, I could no longer get on the ground and back up comfortably and maintain the protocols of hip to knee location. So rather than risk injury, decided to sell it.
Of the 4 cars, I would love to have back my 66 Formula "S" car. It had all the power one could want and still got decent gas mileage. Of course, it would more than likely be powered by a 72 360 block with 340 pistons in it, or 372 cubic inches of small block Mopar.
