The Tyrrell and Legends set made land fall at my local track this last week and WOW are they sharp! I had planned to just get the Tyrrell but after seeing the Legends set... Well lets just say it was an expensive evening! :D

One of the other cars that I am going to look at picking up from there that came in with this shipment as well is the new Lotus Exige C3509 car - that looks SHARP in the flesh! :D

Labour costs are rising in China. The only way to decrease them is to relocate. Relocation costs money (just ask Jules). So does training the new workforce and dealing with the quality losses.

Production costs do go down with modern production methods. However with slot cars there isnt about to be a new "silver bullet" production method that will further significantly reduce costs. I could be wrong of course. The only way to further reduce costs significantly is to reduce labour costs and that is highly unlikely in established "first" world countries. Who on this forum would be prepared to work under Chinese labour arrangements? Now be honest! Not me, I know that much.

So the only way you can reduce costs is to move the labour force to the next "third" world country on your corporate hit list. It buys you 10-20 years of cheap labour but as the economy of that world improves you have to start looking for the next "third" world country on your hit list. That is now happening in China, they have reached that cross road and large multinationals are now looking for alternatives. Enter India into the pricture. Its cyclic and maybe 100 years from now Chinese multinationals will be looking for cheap labour and outsourcing labour to Australia and the US. :o

Actually, we're about to see production costs go down in a significant way. We're seeing 3D printing move into the slot car arena as we speak, it's just not quite up to production standards for bodies yet. Yet. It does work nicely for chassis and other not-frequently-seen parts. It's also phenomenal for rapid prototyping, which reduces manufacturers' costs.

Dr. Fabio, you make a great point, but aren't we seeing a 'correction' in the price of labor in the US right now?

I put the C3482A (#12 Tyrrell) on the track a couple of days ago. I removed the magnet and set the track voltage between 11-12. I couldn't believe how well it ran. I didn't do one thing to it, no tire sanding.....nothing but remove the mag. One caution if you do want to run it no mag, it is a pain in the butt to take apart and get back together. Be careful! I really, really like it. :banana-dance:
