My wife and I went on a 10 mile walk on a beach today in bare feet, shorts and tee shirt here in NW California. It is now a crazy warm and sunny February after the monsoon like pineapple express of last weekend which brought heavy rain and high winds.

Let's face it. We no longer know anything about what the weather will do.

Our pipes froze. Yes I know to leave a faucet trickle. One member of my family does not. I spent the early morning on the problem, found the place, heated with my slot car hot air gun, and asked the question of why it froze. The answer to the why was simple, cold air. Traced down the source of cold air and found a place where insulation had come loose. Packed said hole with insulation and went overboard doing it.

Now for the memory. I did this once before and a guy laughed at me for going overboard. I wonder why I remember this? Ego? Anyway, here is my answer not to those who laugh at other people, but to victims of cold air. It is your house - go overboard. Having too much insulation is never the cause of pipes freezing. To those that laugh I offer a curse. May your pipes freeze year after year. Mother nature will bring this curse on you. Also, do you wonder why your friends don't invite you over anymore?

BTW, Ember I share your wish for those who are not with us. My wife and I are having a guy in for lunch that has several things hitting him at once.
