John yes the anglewinder will work in the BMW but it will not work in the Porsche it is an inline only.

As I already have three of the earlier Fly M1s, one sidewinder, one Fly Racing with an inline 22K FK long can and the third with a Slot.it HRS2 chassis (which btw is very quick) I am having a hard time deciding whether invest in this new one with an Avant slot chassis and no livery. One more question for mike, I saw no reference to whether this one has at least aluminum set screw rear hubs or are they press on plastic hubs?

I was curious about that too Bob, so last night I went searching the Internet and the only reference I found said plastic wheels. Hopefully Mike will shed some light on this as this is certainly one point that may sway me to buy or not to buy. I really like the car and have picked out decals for it but having to spend another $15 + or - on a set of aluminum wheels could possibly make me hold off.

Definitely plastic press on wheels - AS chassis / motor / gears / guide (sadly Fly wheels)..... sigh.

From all reports if you put on some alloy NSR or Slot.It the thing goes like a rocket.

I'm still confused as there appears to be 3 version, IL, SW and AW (with the AW being limited to 75).

I think I'll wait for the Kenwood model.

Well guys I just ordered one and an AW pod from Mike. So after I get it set up to my liking and running well I'll let you know what I think. Hopefully it won't end up on eBay. :naughty:

A quick reply - I picked one up about a week ago but haven't had time to do anything with it until last night. I replaced the motor pod with the AW aluminum pod ($19.99! - just a few more dollars than a Slot.It pod). The wheels are press on as stated earlier - replaced them with CBD wheels and Quick Slick tires. It's a quick car running about 6.0 seconds on our club track. (5.5 is FAST, 6.0 is a good starting point for a podded car). I expect with more adjustments (setting up the front end and tuning the pod for float) it will get into the 5.7 range.

Not crazy about the basic black body but I will probably add some decals if I choose to race it. I like the simple Lexan interior and lightweight body. I also like the three point motor pod - I feel it lets the car chassis/body 'roll' better than a four point pod. We'll see. The attachment points on the rear of the motor pod appears to be made for the suspension that Avant Slot offers - I haven't seen or used the suspension; instead, I tapped the mounting holes with a 2mm tap and use screws from Slot.It, NSR or Avant Slot to secure the pod to the chassis. I also use pipe tape thread on the threads of the screws to keep them from vibrating loose.

I feel the car is easier to set up due to the simple motor pod. I am excited to see an aluminum AW motor pod for such a low price; I feel the plastic AW motor pods are inherently weak and twist under the load of torquey boxer motors. The aluminum pod is light and stiff and I expect will give better performance.

Since you put it that way I would agree it's more than 'a few dollars'. The stock pod is plastic; I feel the aluminum pod is well worth the investment if one wants to run an AW set-up. I've seen other aluminum pods for twice the price ($40) - so an aluminum pod for 1/2 price is very attractive. The pod is a 2 piece affair that allows the motor to be moved to achieve the desired gear mesh which is critical when setting up an AW pod. I'm still experimenting - trying to keep it as stock as possible but I'm curious how a Slot.It Flat 6R would work . . .
