Lionel 90W transformer problem?

I suspect that Scalextric uses AC wallwarts because they sell their sets all over the world. They have a single power base and several transformers that are made for different line voltages and plug styles. If the contacts inside of the Lionel transformer are corroded lighter fluid would not clean them. Contact cleaner or fine sand paper, like 1500 grit, would be better. Any hardware store should sell volt meters.

The advocate for AC is me. On my track. My track was undriveable on DC power - even when adjusted to very low volts. The AC completely solved my problem. I can't explain it in electrical terms, only that it has worked and that everyone that has driven the track so far has loved it.

I'm not an electrician. I don't use the powerbase from Scalextric. I use the AC2CAR.ORG method for power (minus the "B" Car) and I love it.

The Lionel transformer is simple and hopefully he can get it resolved.

Because I was already headed towards AC2Car when I decided to try it with only one car. I don't care to get into an argument over the how it works, I can just tell you that it does. I've now driven three tracks with AC and loved every one of them. The AC2Car guys have been having fun with this way longer than me.

As for DC motors on AC - I've run this way for about 5 years now. Millions of laps with zero issues and no burned motors or other issues.
