Hello Alwyn, like some others, I am not really really surprised at the outcome.......most of my quickest cars (and many of our club members quickest cars) are single piece chassis, or, ones with the pod glued/secured in. On our various wood tracks more and more folks are securing the pods in order that they flex torsionally with main chassis plate, as opposed to "flop".

A good job on both cars !! :clap: ....and if you don't mind, a small suggestion for your next build(s). When attaching the axle blocks, it is very helpful to use a chassis jig...this will ensure that both axles are parallel, which, if your front tires do touch the track, is important. On the Fly, the front axle appears to be set to turn the car a touch to the left, and if the fronts do touch the track, this can be detrimental to the handling........so....despite it already being a great car, it may just be able to be a bit better !

Great write up.

Need to get some of my old Fly 917's out and give them a massage.

On a side note. I always wondered why Fly never put the correct wheels on the Gunston car. They had them in their inventory. I can understand NSR. Can't justify a new mold for just a few cars. Yes, there are a couple other Piper 917's that should have the Ferrari wheels too.

I like it when a 'lesser' brand can be made to foot it with the big boys so good job on that count. Would be good to see if the outcome would be the same if a Shark 20 and similar (if not the same) gearing was used in both cars too.

I too am not surprised at the outcome. The Fly cars/chassis was very solid. This test proves that even amongst modern cars, the Fly Classics remain the benchmark for slot cars. (at least that is my opinion) I like my Black Arrow, ScaleAuto, NSR, and Slot.it. But, when I think about slot cars, I always think of my collection of Fly Chevrons, Lola T-70, 917...

I'm very late to this party but wanted to add that this is a beautiful livery on a classic racing car. Most of my World Sportcar Championship Series cars are Fly cars, but I didn't get one of these Gunston 917's, and I regret that.
