Both nice.

What do you use for rims and tires?

For these cars, I used the CB Design 15x10 insert wheels with the CG Slotcars insert.

Other models have used the 15x10 “Steely”.

Tires are all Paul Gage PG 22166FF.

Considering folks that supply our hobby will eventually retire or go to the big slot car racing center in the sky unexpectedly wouldn't it be cool if we could get together to obtain an HRW "lending" library where we would all pay a fee to acquire a library of the body vendors products that could be loaned out to members for reproduction. After a member makes a suitable reproduction mold and their own personal copies, the original body and the mold they made would be sent back to the HRW library. That could include the offerings of the current producers of resin and vacuum formed bodies, decals, etc., including Patto's, etc.

Of course, the bulk purchase of such items would have to be stored properly and contractual arrangements would have to be made to allow HRW members use of these items to reproduce in strictly a non commercial manner should the maker retire or..., and their heirs decide to not continue the business (pitching the lot in the dumpster) or sell to another party. Already, in an online interview with Patto, the costs of producing master molds had made him consider retirement. Didn't Fred Cady retire in the last decade or so?

With the cost of such an acquisition spread over hundreds of participating HRW members, the cost MIGHT be reasonably achievable (e.g. Pattos entire 1300 product catalog of vacuum bodies could be acquired for approximately $7,000 US). a full collection of his 2300 decal offerings would be more than this figure of course (approximately $18000 US). Spread over say 300 members that's a little over $30 per participating member for just the entire body library or $80 for the bodies and decals. To put it into perspective a single decal set off the bay can range from $7 to $30. To keep acquisition costs down we could do a poll of the manufacturers' offerings we would like to acquire for the library. Resin manufacturers produce far fewer models but at higher pricepoints, but I think those too could be included for a modest cost per participating member.

We have all seen orphan slot car bodies, master molds, and decals from the Golden Era on the bay. This would be a way to salvage a little bit of our hobby for future generations. Perhaps we could possibly partner with the LA Slot Car Museum in some manner.

Perhaps some of our HRW member commercial body producers could provide their insight to my idea.

Problem is, some people have different intentions. They simply copy and pour cheap repops on eBay and have no care except lining their own pockets.

You are on point about Pattos and such. But let's refer to the statement above? I have seen some decal "makers" do nothing more than steal the artwork and reproduce cheap, very low quality product.

I wish we could do such a thing. But to manage it? Literally impossible. Or rather, a very time consuming task that few, if anyone would undertake.

My goal with RMS was specific. They will be recreated and offered here on HRW. I happen to plan on being around for awhile, but when the time comes? I'll find another to carry things on.

Since my name has popped up several times, I thought it best I should weigh in.

1) I am looking for someone to take over RMS as-is. Before anyone raises their hand, that means for sale. I've invested way too much blood, sweat, and tears to not recoup some of my investment of time and money. It will take the right buyer IF it ever comes to pass.
2) In the meantime, Harry and I have signed agreement - I am sending him several master kits to modify for the HRW Showdown Series. These have to modified by him for this purpose, but they will be offered here for these HRW events. They will not be offered in the original T/A form (if that is what they are - e.g.: a 1967 Dart) as that will remain with RMS.

I'm extremely happy that Harry has wanted to take this on. I've enjoyed watching the Sportsman Showdowns and think that with his mods to the kits, they will be a great way to keep some awesome bodies alive.

Lastly, one comment. I have been well aware of copying other's work in the industry. Happens regularly and really kills any desire to continue when it happens. It is why a very well known caster trashed all of his stuff years ago. He destroyed everything. That doesn't keep someone from copying it verbatim, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the info Harry and good luck with the "moving on" sale, David.

Nothing is safe when you know what silicone and resin can do....but then what is safe when you have a 3D scanner and printer.
Copyright? eh? where? who? when?

I learned casting by copying some existing bodies, try to avoid it these days.

I agree it would be very difficult, not only the initial acquisition cost, but also the time and archival storage space involved, and legal/intellectual property issues...not unlike the efforts of the LA Slot Car Museum, but with a twist.

It is to bad about RMS Resins but I feel a persons health comes first no matter what, and the four bodies, cars I have they will be well protected but will see a lot of track time, either on my home set and commercial tracks in the area I live, the only thing I need to find out is what type of motors I can use either for both types of track or ones that I will be able to swap out as needed

The molds I will be getting will be used in a more specific way. They will altered for use in our Showdown Series. So they will not be original/Street/TA trim.

As far as the decal business goes be aware that printers that can do white are very expensive. The only ones that I am aware of are by Okidata and cost about $3500.
I went through the list of resin body makers and many of them are now out of business.
