How Close Do NSRs and Slot.Its Run On Track?

While Superslab is usually beating the pants off of me, my fastest car is an NSR Porsche 917 SW that I bought used (means someone else set it up). My fastest lap on the same track as him was into the 7.5s. I can usually get this car to run consistently under 8.0, and an average of about 7.8 is expected. I do not record my lap times like Superslab does, but my second fastest car is the green Slot.it Lola AW, which I can run under 8.0 some of the time. Its fastest time was in the 7.7s. Third is my NSR Audi R18 IL that is now running about 8.0, after a great deal of tuning. Even in the best of times, the rest of my NSR and Slot.it cars can't crack 8.0, but both my tuning and driving skills are nowhere near Superslab's. It is nice though, that he usually does not race his fastest cars on club racing nights. The rest of us get a bit of a break.

Everybody knows there are goiong to be slight production/performance differences in "identical" motors. So, while it makes a difference over the long haul, it shouldn't give you reason to pause.

Okay now for an off the wall question:

Do you prefer a car that is crazy fast or a car that drives along smoothly looking slow, but just cuts good lap time. Not the fastest, but good lap times?

It depends on the day. Sometimes I like a car with a bit of twitch. Other days one that feels like it almost drives itself. When a car is handling super smoothly it is easier to concentrate on getting the driving right, ie) braking points, acceleration out of the corners, hitting the woop-de-doo at just the right speed so as not to get too much air.

A twitchy car makes you concentrate. Great for shorter races, exhausting for the long haul.
