The balsa wood rear body mount I made has been installed on the body using permanent double sided foam tape. It's firmly attached but still has some flex due to the tape. Next, I want to make some foam donuts from craft foam to use as washers between the body mount and chassis. The donuts will compress as the screws tighten allowing some flex and also a range of tightness of connection between chassis and body.
I also need to look for some 1/8" plastic tubing for use in designing a roll cage. I'll keep it simple with a main hoop from left to right just behind the driver's seat and two side hoops going from front to back. I can mock something up now but won't be able to finalize it till I trim the interior and fit it in place. The roll cage will almost touch the roof but not be connected to it. That will also mean not doing final placement till after the car is painted and the windows installed so I know the final clearance.
Sometimes I'd try to build a car in a day, or a weekend. I'm glad that isn't the case with this project and things are going slowly. I guess that's because now that I'm retired what doesn't get done on a Sunday can be resumed on Monday, and so on.
