Cyclone build and tune

I was actually thinking of calling Alray Tire Center this morning around 10 AM to ask about their sponsorship on the #03 Mercury Cyclone. Then I realized I'd get some counter person on the phone, who has 3 customers in line trying to get new tires put on, and I'd be asking them about something that likely happened before they were born. The picture in the post above is from the 1972 Daytona 500.

Glad I decided not to waste their time, and get sworn at.

First, its North Carolina and they wouldn't be mean to you, unless its about politics.

Second, they have had so many calls like that over the years that there is someone in the place who is to "go to" person to talk about the racing days. I worked at York Arms Co. in Memphis, and we still had calls from time to time from people who wanted to go on Safari in Africa, as the Yorks famously did all the way back in the 1920s. Sure enough, Mr York (the younger), patiently took the calls and talked to people for as long as they wanted to talk. People take a lot of pride in their glorious past.

I always wondered about that car. Has anyone ever heard of POP Kola? I assume its regional somewhere.

I like the tri-color paint scheme on this livery. I assume this was just another version of the car driven by James Hylton & Benny Parsons, but have nothing to verify that.

And here is a Pop Kola Torino. This time a fastback and in front of him is the 92 Torino. Both drivers must have switched to Mercury at some point and ended up in the decal mix for this slot car.

My great grandfather called the beverage "Bellywasher", and he always had some in the fridge when I was going to be working on the farm.

I believe those are Jim Hellers decals.

They are. Teresa is his wife, who works in Suffolk. They live in Richmond. Jim has been in trouble so many times with Ebay, he hides his identity. His decals are poor quality. If you use them, invest in decal spray (Papilio).
