I had one of these a few years back. It was a smooth runner after basic tweaking.
From memory I had the suspension screwed down fairly tight...I was running on a gloss finish wood track.
For that price you have done well.
I also remember that these are prone to chewing out the crownwheel when the motor jumps out of its mount. I glued mine in.

Thanks for the pointers, John. I wondered about the motor, I'll secure it the next time the glue gun heats up. I'll be running it on an 88' Carrera 4 lane so I'll start with it screwed down about half way (to leave a little float) and go from there.
