That's nice Bob! I've like yellow cars, as they are easy to see on the track. Well done sir!

I have lived with the Ninco version for years. The Slot.It longtails are nice, but I may have to get an MR shorttail so I have a more complete collection....
I will be watching with interest.

The main trouble with these cars as they come from the factory is the front wheels and tires. As is, the fronts rub the insides of the wheel wells significantly slowing it down and ruining the cornering. The kit comes without any grub screws to adjust the front axle height so, as a temporary measure, I removed the front tires which totally changed the performance of this car. The front rims are the same as the rears so I am going to shop for the smallest diameter tires I can find and them put them on my tire truer. I'm also going to order some grub screws so I can adjust the front axle ride height.
I don't know whether the competition versions come with all the parts needed for tuning or not but one way or another you are going to have to spend close to $100 to get this car competitve. Maybe the cars that come with liveries will be competition ready right out of the box.

Those are nice cars. A club mate of mine brought one to racing last week. First lap he was under 8 seconds on Luf's Targa and after a very few laps was equaling the track record of about 7.0 sec.
I've got to get one of those.

Very nice and concise review. I agree with everything said and I also agree that the front tire rub is easy to fix, if you have the parts in hand to do the job. Having to buy four tires and a package of grub screws does bump the price up close to the figure I quoted. And that still makes this car a great bargain.

I have finally unpacked most of my slot car stuff and found a set of low profile zero grips that fit and a pair of grub screws. Now that I have been able to make those additions I find this car to be right there with the best of them, including my Black Arrow Aston Martin, my Arrow Slot Saleen, my Slot.it Ferrari F40 and last but not least my NSR Mosler.

Whee - I got one too!
This is a very nice car, all round. The front wheel thing is a little disconcerting coming from someone with the technical smarts like Ernie, but perhaps the factory changed things without him knowing? I fitted a set of Slot.it lo-profile zero grips and that solved the issue. but once the front suspension arrrives, I wonder if there;s actually enough room for that to work.
I got the orange version, and a set of decals from Patto's:
MRSLot McLaren 01.jpg
MRSLot McLaren 02.jpg
MRSLot McLaren 03.jpg
The decals are obviously sized for some other version of the car, but with a little "cut and paste" action they worked out well. The full size original was red with yellow wheels, but i think the orange version looks fine, and in my mind of course, all McLarens are orange underneath...
