I know with the scaletric 6 car advanced power base you can turn your digital track to analog. can the carrera digital control unit be used in the same way? Can you switch your digital track to analog or would have to replace the control unit with another carrera part to do this?

Looking at your past posts I think you went with Carrera but you are asking about other systems. Have you bought the Carrera yet? If not you may want to do some more research.
In answer to your question, no you can't run analog on Carrera digital. If you want to run analog without chipping then you need the Scaley setup. To run analog cars on Carrera digital you need to swap the Control Unit with an analog terminal. With that you need to use the analog controllers. (not good)
All digital cars are made to run with their own systems. Whatever brand you choose you will need to put that brands chip in the other mfgs car. Carrera's chip are the largest (although there is a new chip that just came out that is smaller) anyways, sometimes it can be challenging to fit it in other cars.

Hi Dave
I am leaning toward carrera but then I was looking at after market cars and noticed that a lot of the ones I like are analog. But in reading posts here it appears that with a little work, or a lot of work in some cases, most analog cars can be chipped for carrera digital. I like the look and feel of carrera the best I will say, but the fact that with the scalextric advanced power base you can run it in either digital or analog mode seems very appealing. Now am rethinking which system to go with. I will say though that in general I like digital features of all the systems. Maybe I am over thinking this and should just buy something and just play with it. I am curious dave, what system do you run? It seems like the "purists" of the hobby prefer analog but I could be wrong. thanks - Tom

Dave,
I too have a Carrera Digital set and I found out too late after the fact that there are some awesome trans am cars but they are analog. I think it's a shame that I have to buy a chip for all theses other brands great cars. Seems I didn't do enough research. Anyway, my question is, I thought I read somewhere that I could buy the analog base track piece, the transformer and the controllers and it's off to the analog races, but you say "not good". Is that because it will not work good or....?
