How does Team Slot compare to the other slot car brands?

OK......I had a TeamSlot Saleen S7 in the TRW livery. I also have a couple Fly Saleens.
The detail is OK, but not as detailed as the Fly. On the balance though, the Saleen is perhaps the most detailed slot car Fly ever made so it's a high standard.
As far as running, it was worse than the Flys. Fly tuning is a known issue......and the TeamSlot car was worse than the Flys. Mostly sloppy bearings and poor gears, although maybe I got a bad one. In any case, I sold it and kept the Fly versions.
It's not horrible if you don't mind swapping parts. But at the end of the day, I don't care to put $35 or more dollars in parts on a $50 slot car.........why not just buy a Slot.It at that point? For $50 you get a great running car.
So....to each his (or her) own.....but I prefer other brands.

If scale matters to you they can be slightly large for a true 1/32 scale car.

I have two Teamslot Renault Alpines. The only part I replaced on both was the guide plus I glued in some old plastic bushings that I had on the front axle to get the correct guide height and limit front axle movement (a personal preference). Other than that I carried out the same preparation that I do with any car (including Slot.its and NSRs). This includes gluing and truing tyres (on plastic wheels in this case), general blueprinting, body float etc. With this done they run very well indeed: can do about the same lap times as a very well prepared Fly on a very technical wood track (and a very well prepared Fly is very good on this track: not far off Slot.it lap times).

They do not have the highest quality components on the market (feels somewhat cheapish) and I have doubts about their long term reliability/durability. But in the mean time they make cars that nobody else does, the finish and appearance is fantastic (and yes: the Alpines have a lot of fragile bits but that is not Teamslot's fault: that is what the 1:1 car looked like). And if some bits do fail I can repair it.

No: it is not a Slot.it. But it is a lovely model of something that nobody else does and it runs rather well. If you want another Slot.it: fine, this isn't it. If you want to spend a lot of money and replace the chassis with an HRS or another Slot.it or NSR chassis with Slot.it or NSR running gear also fine. But you can only have one fastest car and you really, really do not have to spend a whole lot of money to replace parts on these cars to get a well running car that looks great.

The reality is that if you want some variety you will have to go with something out of the ordinary at some stage. If you can live with some of the mentioned limitations, I consider this a great option.
