I was just wondering how many of you that run and race carrera cars use the reversing switch? Would it be a deal breaker if it was gone? Carrera cars are nice looking and very reasonably priced,but I would buy more if there were less electronics involved. Would you?

I had a mishap while working on one of my cars and had to take out the switch. I haven't missed it, as I don't really use them. But I don't know if I'm in the majority on that or not.

Cannot imagine why having the switch is a deal breaker at all. I use it a lot when racing with my young racers. They like having it.

And since it is easily bypassed, I feel it adds to the value of the cars.

I have driven Carrera cars with no alterations to the electronics, and cars that have been gutted of the electronics and the lead wires soldered to the braids. There is no difference (other than psychological) in the car's performance with or without the gizmos.

I remove the switch on mine, not for any weight savings but to give myself a little extra "tuning room" on the chassis. Additionally, I reuse the plugs for a body to chassis connection on the cars I put lights in. Since I run Ninco track I have a reverse switch already built in. Just my :twocents-mytwocents:

I'm with Dave, this isn't going anywhere.

If you dont have reversing switches on your track, this little feature is cool, running a road track both ways is like having 2 tracks

If I was going to ask Carrera for something it would be a truck :music-rockout:

I have cars with, and some I've bought second hand. No difference that I can see other than the ability to switch direction from the car.

Well it is kinda cool to run the cars the other way with just a flip of the switch..

we also have ran them with out it,see no difference..

It was just a question,wasn't really supposed to go anywhere. One of my better handling cars is a carrera corvette that I stripped all the electrics out of to make room for weight. I try to keep the lead inside the car when I can. Like I said,it was just a question.

One thing I use the reversing switch for is trouble shooting a dead lane when on occasion the copper tape breaks. It takes two breaks to cause a dead zone so when a car stops when going in the normal direction I use one of my Carrera cars with the switch reversed going in the other direction to find the other break. Then they both get patched.
When I relocated the track to my home it had to be broken into manageable sections. We intend to completely retape the track but in the meantime we just made patches where the track was separated. Sometimes vibration and/or temperature changes cause the copper to break apart.

So i get the idea of saving weight but I think on balance the weight saved is nearly nothing when compared with the weight of the chassis and body. If you really wanted to save weight swap out the interior tray with a vac-formed tray, that would save a lot and move the center of gravity lower (both of which would be good things).

Modlerbob,that's a great idea,my track is taped mdf. And Dave,I'm not trying to save weight,just want more room for it,to get it low and inside. Carrera does a nice job on the interiors,I keep them.
