New Slot Car Is Coming To Town!

Harry's Fly tuning article is quite timely.
Why? Well I just placed an order with Top Slots & Trains for a Fly Ferrari 512 "Coda Lunga". Hey with the bright red paint and white trim, it kinda reminds me of old Santa. Interestingly, it cost less than $50 shipped to my door. I have a Ferrari Fetish and have issues with not having enough to fill the slot room up with them.
I might be tempted to put a 3D printed chassis and Slot.It sidewinder motor pod with an orange end bell Slot.It motor in it. Should be a sweet Slotter!

Sounds great Marty, seeing different methods is fun.

Just don't run into any palm trees when you're done tuning it... 8-)

Marty, If you need any orange endbells, let me know. I have zero use for them.

Marty
I checked out the Ferrari deal you mentioned and ordered one too. I've had my eye on this car for awhile and the price, with shipping, is a good deal. I woulda, coulda, shoulda got a Slot-Wings #23 Porsche 917K (Le Mans winner in 1970) too, but didn't see it till after I submitted the order and don't want to pay double shipping cost.
I'm looking forward to hearing how you like yours and what you do to it.

Slot head,
At this time my plans call for a Shapeways Ferrari 512 3D chassis, a Slot.It CH62 motor pod (case end drive configuration), an orange endbell Slot.It FC130 motor, CB Design insert wheels . . . . . kind of a Slot.It "Classic" configuration. I hope to race this in our club's Slot.It "Classic" program.
For whatever reason, I do like just about anything Enzo put out of his shop. The 512 (just about any model) fits right into my sweet spot. I also have a Spirit Ferrari 512 "S" (short tail) that is WIP.
If all goes well, I expect to put together a step by step.
Stay tuned.

If I have to write it, no time soon. I probably have a couple of book reports from high school I never turned in.

ModlerBob,
Is that the Fly 512 S "Berlinetta" as raced at Daytona in 1970? Great looking car. I would love to find one without the white on the back. I just like the plain red color scheme.
I won't call it Ferrari red, as I am finding out that Enzo had a lot of shades Ferrari red. Seems like the colour de jour changed all the time.
Right now the project is on hold. Seems like my parts from those guys at SCC ran into a palm tree at 37,000 feet or some such problem. :D

Yes, it's the Daytona car. I had the shapeways chassis in one of my other 512s but when I found #28 I made a swap.

I finally received my Fly Ferrari 512 Coda Lunga in the mail. So I got to work.
First off, I was planning on installing an anglewinder configuration in my Shapeways 512 chassis plate. But I could not do that as the Shapeways chassis does not provide that ability.
So my choices were inline or sidewinder. I chose sidewinder.
I ordered a set of Racer Ferrari inserts. I must say that is the way to go. The wheels look awesome (sorry about the lack of photos, but my camera is down at the present time - hopefully that will be rectified very soon) and I'm very happy with them.
The one thing that I am totally unhappy with is a Bozo No-No move that I made. To put the Slot.It sidewinder motor pod in, I needed to make some changes to the driver. When I was putting the interior back in, my CA glue decided that it was time for a big "BLAH" to come out of the tube. Ruined the windshield, so I'm recoving from that trauma.
However, the car runs very, very well. Better than any other Fly car in my collection. That might just be covered in another article I'm working on. I have two Fly Porsche 917 Spyders. One of them is going to retain the stock chassis plate, the other will have a Shapeways plate in place. The Fly chassis plate will have SCC bronze bushings installed with the proper tools and finished off with a reamer. The rear axle just slides in and out so nice! It also has a Slot.It FC130 orange endbell motor with Slot.It gearing of 11/32. I've brought the original Fly wheels over and added SCC front axle height adjusters. So I am trying to build 2 Fly Porsches the same as possible.
Only the resulting test session will show which is faster. Stay tuned for those results as well.
I've got to run as my wife is standing here with my evening meds - including pain killers.
