What are the resistors(?) For?

I see what I think are resistors on the motors of many cars. I have just cut them off, but I'm curious as to what they really are and what they are actually for? Should I leave them on? Borrowed a pic for a Carrera 57 Chevy to show what I'm looking at. Also, what is that circuit board on the Carrera chassis for? Leave it or loose it?

I believe the resistors are for TV interference. The circuit board is for the directional switch on the bottom. If you don't plan on running in the opposite direction take it out and just plug in the motor to brush wiring and go.

The components on the motor are capacitors and are there to cut electrical noise generated by the motor turning from interfering with your analog TV...
If they were missing you probably wouldn't notice.

I thought I had heard that someplace, but was not sure. If I'm racing, I'm not watching TV so, no harm no foul... Thanks guys..

I'm not familiar with Carrera digital but in the case of Scalextric, these are required to isolate the digital chip from static interference.

I run Carrera digital and I don't use those after a motor swap. We run all mixes of motors together without problems. If you're not swapping a motor, I wouldn't go to the trouble of removing them.

They are suppressors, to filter out interferance to TV and radio. They are a requirement in some countries.

Thanks again for the clarification.
