Really nice work, Bob.
I do something similar on a lot of my SCX cars (I run at 12VDC) but I'm not nearly as "refined" in my engineering......hot glue covers a multitude of sins!

The shaft just barely reached the retainer, that's why, if you look carefully I put a spacer behind the left hub to prevent the axle from moving laterally.

Thanks for the complement. I'm not sure I deserve it. I never have gotten used to being addressed as "sir". When I was teaching few of my students ever used that title meaningfully.
