Just was interested in seeing what people race with when their club or their friends want to race a certain race class(IMSA,T/A, GT, ...). The car you go to that you know is a smoker old faithful she may not be new and may have many battle scars. But after years of tuning, and reworking it's the goto car from your box. The car that's so forgiving in the turns and just down write fast down the streights. The car people hate to see emerge from your pit box. I've amassed a few of these cars over the years here's one.

On the road course, there are so many :)
In the "modern gt" category here is an all time favorite.

Looks like a runner you got their, I have one but haven't gotten around to tuning it yet. My Sauber their is an old car that I recently as of the last year started running again. It's funny how you pull out a car that you haven't run for one reason or another in a long time (broken chassis). You see all the old past tunning techniques or misstackes you made thats you've long since have changed. After redoing the car it's become a favoret now and has earned it's place in my pit box.

I think you have the right idea on these old cars. You do look them over and figure out where you can make improvements and then work them over. From an old heap to track star in no time.
There are a lot of "older" models out there that likely only need a little work to get them to run just as well as anything new.

That Benz is a great running car - I had 3 of them.
My go-to is still my 1970 Warren Agor Camaro. I seem to have this "thing" for orange vehicles...

Mine would be my R/M Lola T70 mounted on a HRS2 sidewinder chassis. Very fast and smooth runner. Marty was always amazed at it's performance.

Of the 14 cars in my pit box that runs in our modified old Nascar class, have to say is my 1:32 scale (an old junk used poorly painted 6.00 ebay model) of a '57 Ford Fairlane setting on a narrow Carrera # 43 Plymouth Fury chassis with a 25,000 slot it motor & slot it running gear. Now on our full blown modified class what scares them they say is my Carrera chipped NSR Mosler chassis with a 40k motor on a home made lexan late model body, stupid fast lap times on a 70'+ high bank 4 lane tri-oval. I don't run this car much as the crashes are violent when you come up & lap the others when they try to block you. The compettion have been trying to figure this car out :shhh: .. not braggn' just sayin...
