I was shopping online at Electric Dreams earlier for a Scaley replacement rear axle assembly and while browsing I came across an AutoArt RX-8 which I didn't even know existed. The 1:1 RX-8 didn't quite excite me like the RX-7 but I did like all the Mazda rotary powered cars so I went ahead and ordered it. AutoArt is one of those brands that although I am sure it will be stunning looking you never know how it will run until you get it. I wasn't able to find an online review so I eagerly await it's arrival.

Hi Bob, my son had a 'thing' about RX-8's when they were 1st released and not long after that I bought him the AA model. They are a challenge to get running well. The tyres are a let down as they appear to be more suited to a static model as they are quite plasticky and the car is grossly overpowered. I will have another 'go' at it sometime but I think they would be more suited to a 14k or 16k motor and some good PG tyres or something similar. Good luck with your car. I'll be keeping an eye on what you do to it.

Bob,
Like buying any car from a different manufacturer you should have bought two if you want to race.
My limited experience with Auto Art is positive as they are inexpensive, well made, quiet and pretty, but they won't keep up with a race replica slot car. The tires are to scale (narrow) and not made of competition grade material.
Open a beer and do some laps and you'll find you might become a convert. Leave the magnet in and it'll keep up with a Carerra Alfa Romeo, which also comes with ridiculously narrow tires.
Anyway you'll have fun making it better? Got any friends in Aus? MKJ has tires for it!

I was fully expecting to replace at least the rear tires with PG xpgs. I also have a few other AA cars and in the case of the Lamborghini Countach I replaced all four rims and tires with CB aluminum rims and PG tires. This will most likely be just a track day type car and not set up for competition.
