Are slim cans basically the same size in width and height. I'm looking for a small one for my 100 years of Indy Car

Yes, they are all, basically FF-050 motors, with the same dimensions; give or take manufacturer's variances.

Alan is quite right bookie, most are identical, except for rpm.
The old Vanski motor does have a slightly larger bearing pot at the drive shaft end.
It requires a bit of filing of the mount at the business end to fit it in.
Otherwise dimensions are the same to my knowledge also.

The ones usually sold for slot cars are all the same: M/T, BWA, Monogram, Fly, Scalextric, etc. There are slim can motors on the web that are designed for robotics. The can part is the same dimension, but they have a plastic end bell that I believe is a bit different. This wouldn't matter if you are scratch building the mounts, but they may not fit in as a straight motor swap.

Cheers,
