Young whipper snapper

Postby Junior » Mon Jul 04, 2016 8:22 pm

My college aged daughter has been hanging with friends this weekend, a couple of girls and a boy. They went to the Lee Brice concert at Ribfest last night and come over for dinner tonight. I had my track out all weekend and today he tried it. He never tried slot cars before and started as we all did, stopping and going and wiping out in the curves. He tried a variety of cars I brought out and improved pretty fast. I gave him a Slot-it 312, and he really liked running it. After a little more than 200 laps, he was doing just over 4 sec lap times which is very good on my track. He wanted to get under 4 seconds but the girls pulled him away to their next stop. I am sure he will be back.

College age? Hmmm....

Yes you can sow the seed and maybe he'll be back in 10 years but in the interim he'll be to busy sowing seeds of his own.

An effort that is to be commended but...

Yes, well I am more optimistic.

Just the fact they DID is good. First time enjoying it and all of you have a great memory.

Never know, all it takes is one little taste :auto-driving:

As Harry said, he enjoyed it and has an appreciation for the hobby. I wasn't thinking he'd immediately join the hobby, but if he is around the next time I have my track out, he will definitely join in the fun.

You can usually tell within about 15 minutes whether a young person likes driving and will be good at slot car racing. Whether they come back is another matter. A teenager has so many other distractions, especially the other sex, slot racing sadly ends up low on the priorities.
