Help With Over Tighten Carrera Screws

Postby scatman » Wed Aug 17, 2016 9:19 pm

Hopefully you guys can help with this problem. I have two back screws on my Carrera 57 Chevy (#16) That I can't remove. It is on so tight it seems the screws were stripped when they installed them. Tried some oil to loosen the screws, no luck.

Well, I had this once on an old Fly. Seems perhaps clearcoat found its way into the threads. In any event, they would not budge.

I dripped a little Ronsonol lighter fluid on them and let that soak about 30 minutes. It worked.

I washed the posts out with some Dawn and warm water and still ok today.

But the screw heads were not stripped nor was post.

I have had the same problems with screws in lap tops. I found a post that suggested to use LEFT handed drill bits. The way it is said to be done is to pt a small bit in your variable speed drill and just blip the trigger counter clockwise and keep the speed as low as possible. Keep blipping the trigger and the drill bit will actually bite in with out drill out the top of the screw if you just blip the trigger. IT WORKS PERFECTLY! I was able to extract some screws that were cross threaded out of a hard drive. These screws heads were completely stripped out. I bought mine at Harbor freight. for under 10 bucks.

Hope this helps.
