Bob you should have received a set of low profile front tire under the tray that would help address the rubbing issue.

This has been an issue with the McLarens from the get go. You can also take a dremel to the tabs that hold the headlights. That should the trick - it did on mine.

Mike, you were right. When I went back and looked in the packaging, I found the tires. I'll put them on the car that I robbed. I hope that everyone that plans to drive the thing realises changing the fronts is a necessary task.

Well, I am now the proud owner of a second Gulf F1GTR. It seems that I originally preordered one from Electric Dreams. They must be the ones that make you pay when placing the order since it just arrived without any advance notice. I may just put this one up on a shelf sealed in it's container and see if I can sell it around Christmas for, say, $100.

Nice review Bob.
The owner of MRSLOTCAR has been to a local track up here in the Buffalo area. Nice guy. I believe he is from the Toronto area.
Sad that a new car doesn't run properly.

Once I got it sorted out it has become a great runner, at least equal to the slot.it long tailed McLarens. Definitely worth the money and a beautiful slot car.

Hi Bob,
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. I wonder if you could put a ruler over the width of the car and compare it with the Ninco example. There has been some hysteria at my club based on hearsay over the width of this particular model and it scale integrity. This has resulted in it being banned even though no one has actually seen one "in the flesh".
Cheers Alan

Never easy to measure an odd shape but with a couple of iterations I get the following at the widest point over the rear wheel arches:
Ninco: 62.85mm
MR Slotcar: 62.93mm
Slot.it (Long tail!): 62.74mm
So the MR Slotcar is the widest. But would you really be concerned about a 0.12% (Ninco) and 0.30% (Slot.it) difference?
Length is more of a difference; 134.9mm for the Ninco vs. 140.7 for the MR Slotcar: 4.3% difference.
According to Ultimate Car Page the Length X Width for the McLaren is 4,367 x 1,900. At 1/32 this would be 136.5 and 59.4 mm. The MR Slotcar is therefore just under 6% too long, 3.4% too wide. Not too shabby I would have thought. To get a sense of how this relates to slot cars generally: not all slot car proxy races have scale limits but one that I have seen has a 10% allowance. The MR Slotcar is obviously well within that.
Edit:
Sorry: I transposed the numbers at the end. The MR Slotcar is 5.9% too wide and 3.1% too long.
For comparison: the Ninco is actually a touch shorter (1.2%) than a scale 1/32 and just under 5.9% too wide.

Thanks SuperSlab,
I thought as much, I'll try not to look too smug when I present the car when it arrives. The fact that most modern slot cars are out of scale in at least one direct was overlooked when I made the case to allow it.
Cheers
Alan

This new slot car is clearly in the same class as most slot.it and NSR 1/32 slot cars. It totally outclasses its NINCO rival, at least in stock form. I suppose that an expert tuner who is willing to spend a lot of cash could bring the NINCO version close to the performance level of the MrSlotCar McLaren but why bother.
