About 2 years ago I was on HRW asking what tires to use on my new MDF road course. It took me awhile to understand there is no universal answer to such a question. After trying a bunch of possibilities I found out PGT urethanes work very well on my painted MDF road course, with the improved stock rubber(?) tires on Pioneer and Scalextric cars a close second.

But silicone tires still rule on my very slick hardboard oval. Silicone over foam tires are the best of the best, thus reserved for cars in my Super Dirt Series. Indy Grips seem to be the next best, but I'm just about out of the many pairs I bought years ago.

Does anyone use Indy Grips, and if so where do you get them? I'm specifically looking for IG 1003 tires to use on Scalextric (F1?) performance parts set screw metal wheels.

Indy Grips have not been made for a number of years. Professor Motor took over the business and now sells silicone tires called MaxxTracs. Looking at the PM site there still seem to be limited quantities of Indy Grips in stock. In addition Super Tires has silicone tires to fit many stock and aftermarket wheels and there are also Quick Slicks silicone tires to fit aftermarket wheels.

Maxx Trac's used to be my tire of choice on the oval but the surface seems to have aged and now Indy Grips have more bite. Quick Slick's doesn't make tires for most of the cars and wheels I have because they're discontinued models.

I'll hit up Professor Motor for some left over Indy Grips and see if the Maxx Trac Extremes are comparable.

I have lots of IG's left over, including several pairs of 1003's... Let me know if you want any, I won't want much for them...

IG1003 I'd not the tire for a F1 car they are for a Scalextric Nascar. The tire numerber you are looking for is IG1001. Just making sure you are getting the correct size. If you have trouble getting them I will be more than happy to get as many as you want. I don't have Indy grips on my website but I can get them within a couple day's.

Years ago I used to buy a lot of Scalextric sport performance parts, including C8410 aluminum set screw wheels.


I used Scalextric C8414 "Rear Tyres Formula One" on them

before discovering Maxx Trac and Indy Grip tires. But I didn't know the part #'s to get so I'd buy a bunch of different ones and see what worked. I'd use anything I could get my hands on for scratch built dirt modified replicas.

Last weekend I found a spare Indy Grip 1003 tire in my bin and put it on the right rear of a car with a C8414 tire (above) on the left rear. Wow, what a difference! I can now do controlled power slides through the corners and driving the car is sooo much fun. Maybe IG1001 is the correct tire for this wheel, but the 1003 is okay too.

Either way I want to upgrade to this stagger setup on more of my cars. Redlynr - I'll do a deal with you for some 1003's, and Mike I'll get some 1001's from you too. I like having a lot of spare pairs on hand to experiment with.

I did not know that was the wheel you were referring to. The difference between 1001 and 1003 is only the width. The center rib is the same on both wheels. So it will all depend on the look you are looking for and your set up.

1008 is the later f1/dallara. Same wheel od and rib as the nascar, 1003. Molds appear identical, but rib on nascar 1003 is more outbard so narrower track.

Mike - PM me about how I can order some Indy Grips from you since they aren't on the Cloverleaf website. I'm interested in 4 pairs each of these sizes (depending on what redlynr has available). Considering these are for dirt modified replicas, the wider the better.
