I was about to sell these as I really haven't done anything to them since having a wood track. But...I've always loved these, so tuned the first one and it is a joy to drive now!

Isn't that set car Vette a ball? I never expected it to be so different from the coupes. That Dan Gurney Vette is a runner, too.

I wonder how many miles we have laid down with those Scaley 40's? Those older cars look better than today's sadly. Worht the tune and I would keep'em.

Keepers for sure, and I think they are great cars for when new folks come to try slot cars.
They are forgiving and sturdy for the punishment they will endure.

It is not that they aren't great cars, because they really are. I just drove them a bunch when I had my Scalextric track, and they didn't like the wood tracks.

A set of PGT urethane tires trued along with the wheels, hot glued the motor in, did the axle super glue trick, opened the mounting holes a little for a float, and glued the bushings in. They are fantastic now. I really enjoyed playing with these great cars again.

I managed to get 7/10 done, but I'm whipped after a busy week and a busy weekend ahead!

You know I have a few of those cars as well and I don't race them that much either. We run on wood as well and from time to time we will pick a group of car to tune for wood racing. So new gearings ,bushings, tires, wheels, and guide may be in order. Next and this is a touchy subject I pull out my dermal for some chassis and body trimming. I really try not cut too much as to I don't like to take away from the stock look of the car. In some cases I'll make wheel inserts from the stock wheels. The point is you can make any car fast and look great for wood track racing if you put a little time effort into it. Oh by the way I really love your track and your products you really bring a lot to the hobby.

As for the tuning part - it is shocking how well these things go with just tires and what I've described. I was running one of the GT40's this morning against a Slot.it M8 and it was actually a close run. I chop my T/A cars pretty good for float, but for these we'd have to take side body parts off, etc. I was reluctant to do that without giving this a shot first. It worked so well, that I'm good with where it ended up. Just opening up the holes and backing the screws off a bit really did wonders for the car without any other trimming or clearance work.

The best part is that they are smooth and responsive. I find the biggest issue is the axle slop - both side to side and the bushings. Once shimmed and the superglue axle trick is done the car quiets down immediately. The Corvette's are much noisier, but I think that is more a by-product of the front motor.

I'll be racing these with a buddy tonight so I'll report back.

My friend Tieck came over tonight to race. After our normal T/A battle, we ran a GT40 vs a P4. Turned out the lights and WOW! Ran for about an hour and loved the lights and the way the cars ran. These just got put on the schedule!

If you ever loose interest in the #21 P4, I could probably find a good home for it.............. ;)
