It was an exciting first weekend of the Targa 2 Proxy. All the cars, except one local and one late entry out of towner, were put through their paces for qualifying yesterday afternoon, with good signs that this should be a very close series. For any of you who don't know about this proxy, the Greater Vancouver Slot Car Club, GVSCC, is a group of racers that race every Friday evening on Luf's Targa and Burnaby Grind Hillclimb tracks, and every Monday at tracks owned by other club members. We have about 20 regulars who may appear on any given race night with an average of 10-12 out per session. This proxy is held on club tracks only, so there are no shipping delays or costs between races, and seven events later the cars go home.
I set a personal best twice yesterday while qualifying, a 7.285, where my previous best was 7.481 with my MRSlotcar McLaren. This time was set by Chris Walker's beautiful brass chassied Chevron, and then matched by Ron Todhunter's basically stock Thunderslot Lola T70 Mk III. While these two were well up on the rest of the class with my driving, I expect several of the cars in Class B to challenge them for top honours when the racing starts next weekend. I anticipate some track record breaking times.
In my case I really said TGIF, as I have been waiting over six months since this proxy was announced.
Cheers,
Keith
