I do that, too, and similar treatment for Scaley guides. Its particularly good for older wood tracks that have a lot of wear on them, or low spots where braid could lose contact. Just make sure it isn't possible for the braids to touch each other.

There was some need to do it because of the electronic noise suppression I've been told. If you notice Bob all of the toy companies do this... us, Scalextric, SCX...
