Going Deep Into the Spares Box

Right now I'm looking for more and more FUN categories to run on our new wood track.

Towards that end, I was sitting and going through my spares box. You know the box, when you are not racing something, it winds up in one of those boxes - normally never to see the light of day ever again.

I came across a couple of bits that got me fired up. One of them was a brass Parma Womp chassis, the other was a Champion Thumper chassis. Okay, aside from the obvious name difference, they are pretty much a very similar car.

I took the front and rear wheels off, removed the spacers, then put the wheels back on. H'mmm, 2.5 inches of max width! I think that will work just fine eith 3.5 inch lane spacing. I then ordered a couple of sets of Paul Gage's new urethane tires for Pro-Track wheels. I'll mount them up on some .500 diameter wheels and put them on the back of the Womps.

Then I saw some of the new Parma "Retro" Womp bodies . . . . .

. . . . . so now I'm putting together at least one of these for testing. Many of our club racers have hung around commercial slot car centers for many years, so they all have the same stuff sitting in their spares boxes. Hey, if this works, then we can just bring them out, dust them off and start having some fun once again racing Womps at DeBary Glen.

More to follow.

What ever works for you is a good thing. Those are not by cup of joe, but some of the cars I like, others do not.

Different Strokes as they say.

Fun is the bottom line as always :)

Yep. I get a charge from the blindingly fast cars, but I depend on the regular cars. I have a couple of NSR Renault Clio cars that are insanely fast. They actually run the tires off the car unless you glue them down. Someday I'd love to run the NSR Clio against a Parma/Champion legends car for top end.

I don't know, Dennis... I have three NSR Moslers, and they can't hold a candle to the Clios. Its actually embarrassing.

Marty ... we ran them as a class in our last series & everybody loved them.
They are keepers for us & are back in the line up for this next series.

We found that the Ninco NC-5 motor geared at 9 / 31 worked great for this track.
Hope it helps ... J Y D

Marty,

I did something similar when we had the small oval in our store. I used 4 Champion Legends cars, converted the axles to 3/32" so I could use the CB Design wheels and Supertires on them. Put some SCX RX42's in them, and they make great rental cars for newbies.
