Scalextrics Lotus 49

I bought a white version of the Lotus 49. So I spent some time making it a J Clark Lotus.





This is a very nice car and I think it was less then $30 in white. Too much motor and too much magnetic effect out of the box. I pulled the magnet added some PGT rears, and run it at 10 volts for an enjoyable drive.

Nice one. This is a great series, one of the best they have.

On mine, PG tires, Minnow motor. And some thin lead on bottom and inside where it can go.

Yes, they are a very nicely done car. The work that went into this is incredible, and it makes a really fine car. My only complaint is the motor/magnet. I think I will repower this using the Minebea S cans that I used in my scratchbuilt cars. That will put it on par with the rest of them.

This is truly a great series. Unfortunately a couple of years ago I did not have the adjustable power supply to drop to 10 volts. At full voltage they scream wonderfully down the straights, but for some 'unknown' reason when they hit each other or get to a tough curve they want to take a flying lesson. Mine don't have all the detailed parts anymore, but are still a hoot to drive. Just make sure you only drive other cars from the same series with them. they don't hold up well with Carrera NASCARs when they trade paint.
What I also remember is how frustrating it was to take them apart without the fear of snapping plastic. These cars are really interwoven parts. Not like an old Lindy model with a simple top and bottom construction. I painted one up like James Garner's car in Grand Prix.

Great fun with these cars....but yes, with no magnet, new rear tires and 10V. Still plenty fast to have the spectacular launches when wheels touch.

Great looking job on the car. We ran these as a class, which has since evolved into a general open wheel class, but we all found them to be well over powered and twitchy. I'm not sure what motor they come with, I think Scalextrics calls them an 18K motor, but they aren't. I've replaced mine with another brand of 18K motor and it is much smoother and easier to drive.

Im with Harry on these cars, the minnow is a great little motor that really tames them down and brings back the fun factor

All of mine in this series were swapped out with BWA slimline 14,000 RPM motors and my collection of MRRC all have 14,000 RPM units as well. They are run at 12 volts and all play nicely. Love the '60 F1 cars! Nice job Dan...
