Scally/pioneer Trans-Am on HRS Chassie

Hi All,
In another post I said I finally found out how to make my trans-am cars run the way I wanted and , Also to look like the Saturday night short track cars I watched as a kid. I started with the scally 69 stang and 69 camaro. First was to remove the body and discard everything under it. I cut out the wheelwells to get it down low. I then mounted the chassie, Now this is how I thought they should look. I will finish the radius trim when I have the new NSR rubber on the rims.

I was just going to cut a card, paint it black and call it an interior. Well, I thought i should do it a little better. I cut the stock interior tray under the dash and then glued the card to it.

I had to cut out some room for the gears. I filled it in with card stock just like the real cars, then some black paint.

Now I can start adding the detail items, Like the roll bar. Will also add fire ext, seat, driver, ect. Next to a stck interior, (the next to get modded)
Image

The body will get modded in saturday night street stock style. only the windshield, no door handles ,no lights ect. I am also removing any unneeded stuff from under the body, old post mounts , ect. Next to stck body.

This is where they sit as of tonite, I will keep up the updates as I build along. I am really enjoying these cars.

I have a few of those Slot.it RTR chassis I never got around to using because they were far too fast. Maybe I'll look around for a spare Scaley body and see what I can do.

I like this idea alot. Harry and I were talking the other day and we are going to do couple cars using the same chassis. Jim

In my opinion the HRS chassis is the fix for those cars you want to run but the
engineering of the chassis as so atrocious you just cant fix them. I have done
the Scaley Camero on an HRS, backdated the body to a '67 and painted it
Smokey Yunic gold and black. The real Smokey car is now owned by Vic
Edelbrock and I love hearing the stories he tells about the things he found
while restoring it.

Hey thanks guys, I have done enough tuning on the stock scally chassie that I knew that this was the next step. I did not run out and buy a bunch of running HRS chassie. I already had so much slot it stuff stuffed in my scallys that I simply bought the starter kit and moved stuff over.

The Mustang has been dipped and primed. I sanded off the door handles and winshield wipers. Have a bit more body mods to do before paint. I need to fill the holes left from the plastic pins on the trunk lid. Also alot of detail to add to the interior.

The camaro had the same sanding done. Still have to build the interior panels. The body just got out of the dip so I should have it in primer tomorrow.

I really like the stance of the camaro. going to order the tires tomorrow also. They will be NSRs. Still don't know if I will keep the SCC rims or use stock inserts with slot it rims. I was adding up the cost of the SCC rims, so I may have to do those one set at a time. Alot depends on how the insert wheels look.

Will keep posting as I build, John W.

Very nice. I have Pioneer Bullitt with cracked rear window glass and some chassis problems that I might do something similar with

Thanks Bibbster, The two parts of the hobby just seem to go together. I will be bulding two more of these, a scally 70 camaro and a pioneer 67 mustang coupe. Thene it will be 4 of my monogram classic nascars. Those mono chassies suck, I have so much time into those and they still don't run the way I like. But then, I like my cars to run fast......

So after a forced break in the action and a move to a new place I will be picking up where i had left off very soon.

Should get my shoulder out of this sling at the end of the month Bibbster. Have been able to look at my cars but not much else. I am planning a new track to replace the old one, but that will be another thread. Don't give up on me, I will be building again!!

If you use the inline version of the HRS chassis you can get the wheels under the wings (fenders?)

I wanted the tires sticking out of the cut-out wheelwell. I wanted them to look like the race cars i watched as a teen at the local short track on Saturday nights. So far these have been my fave car builds. Your car looks nice though!
