Just stopped by one of the plazas in Brunswick, ME a couple of weeks ago to get some items and drove right past the newest addition to the plaza - a slot car store!
This is a nice one; an expansion of a shop that was in downtown Brunswick up until a couple of months ago. Get this; they have a 140' 6-lane Ninco track with a front straight that's almost 60' long!

They also have a 70' 4-lane Scaley Sport track from their old store:

And for the kids that are just starting out, there's a 2-lane figure 8 track:

Plus a nice selection of cars from Slot. It, NSR, Thunderslot, Scalextric, Racer, Ninco and others.
So, if you're in the Brunswick, ME area, stop in at the Slot Car Junction - it's a nice shop; run by nice people, in a nice town. What could be better - right?

Wow Allan that is great news. Not that its close to me but it shows there is still a market out there and not hidden away in an 8ndustrial area , but with walk by and walk in customers. I wish them great luck.

Very nice looking shop. I too wish them well and much success. The sandwich board sign in front of the store is interesting. The slot car shop/toy store where I often spend my money bills itself as the "Coolest Toy Store on the Plant!"

Typically I only get to Brunswick, Maine for meetings or games at Bowdoin College, but now I will go check out Slot Car Junction. Hopefully they will have a slot car in inventory I can use because I always buy something from a physical hobby shop that carries slot car stuff. And I don't mind paying more than I could get it for online because I know they have to make a profit to stay open, which is my hope.

Thanks for the photos, a very nice, clean looking raceway.
The sectional home set track made into a large commercial raceway is a cool idea that I've only done in HO scale. I had a 6 lane Indy oval on 4x10', a 4 lane road course on an "L" shaped 4x12x4' (both constructed with modern TYCO track), and a drag strip made from old Aurora Super Model Motoring (O gauge) terminal straights. This was in addition to the 8 lane Pocono Tri-Oval and 140' road course MDF routed tracks for 1/24 cars, and a 6 lane "Crazy 8" track for fun and small parties. It was a good and popular late '80s - early 90s Long Island raceway, until the escalating rent unfortunately caused me to get out.
I hope the track in Maine thrives and spreads the FUN of slot car racing to everyone in the area. Best of luck to the proprietors, and ... Enjoy! -- Ernie :>)

Allan - I've been an administrator at upstate rival Colby College for over 10 years. I'm also a liaison with the football team and go to all home and in-state games. Both Colby and Bowdoin are in the D3 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). These are academically rigorous colleges where being a student comes before being an athlete. The guys at both places do very well in both capacities.

It's funny you posted this, My kids went to Grand Rapids today and I asked them to stop at the biggest
Hobby Store in the city, wanted them to pick me up some Carrera track fasteners for my new 1/32 -1/24 track
Easy right they had the part numbers and the oldest knew just what I was looking for, she seen the listing on paybay
The seller said they don't have anything like that and told them it's not in the Carrera Catalog :violin:
OMG, I think the store might want to have someone that knew a little more about slot cars
Here's the funny part, this guy was the store slot car guy. :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

As I just noted in a post on the 'Latest Slot Car' thread, I visited Slot Car Junction in Brunswick, Maine last night and purchased a Slot.It McLaren. If I can find something I can use I always buy a car or similar from an actual hobby shop. Can't complain about a lack of hobby shops these days if I'm not going to put my money where my mouth is. Back in the day (as we say) there were lots of hobby shops because people went in them and spent money. The internet has helped resurrect slot car racing. I wouldn't have anyone to talk slot cars with without it and wouldn't know about new cars and products since I live in a rural area. But, standing in front of a display full of cars and seeing cars zooming around the track is still the best way to market our hobby.
Slot Car Junction is NOT where it's web info on Yelp says it is, they've moved. I called them, (207)-729-9545 and got directions to their new location - the one pictured on this thread. The 6 lane plastic track is huge and looks like a lot of fun. A handful of guys were warming up and just about to start a race but I couldn't stay because I'd promised the wife we'd go out to dinner in the area. I was told they run stock RTR cars without the magnets and was invited join them. I will return for racing one night soon after I pick a car to use. There were a bunch of Slot. It, NSR, and Thunderslot cars in their display case so I know better to walk in with a lesser brand and expect to keep up. Unfortunately, it's not likely I'll get there often because it's a 70 mile drive from home, and 50 miles from work.
The folks operating the place were super friendly. I signed the guest book so they have my name and email address and I expect to hear from them. If you're in southern Maine (great place to visit), I recommend you stop in and say hello - and maybe even buy something.

I was there this past Friday. The Ninco track is quite impressive. Was hoping to get some parts but they weren’t stocking any as of yet.
