Cheetah Redux

I decided that my little orange Strombecker Cheetah needed an update. I wanted something different than what I've seen before and I wanted to just be able to use the parts in my existing bin to pull it off. It was already mounted to an HRS chassis. I used a set of Sideways BBS rims and some random decals. It still needs a bit of work but I like the overall look of it.

Updated Strombecker for the win! Nicely done.
I will say it again.....decent bodies, close to scale, and can be made into beautiful cars with some work.

Yep. That's why I look for old Revell, Strombecker and a few others.
Paul's gorgeous Cheetah is exactly the kind of car I aim for when I pick these up. Nice job, Paul.

Thanks fellas! Thankfully it runs better than it looks. I'm already on the lookout for another one to customize.

OK, I ask this in another part of the forum, just bought a monogram cobra that has a drive shaft, my questions are , is the drive shaft hard to work on and how well does it preform over all over the other types, as in side winders and piñon & crown gear types, so far first one that I have seen, been out of the loop of slot cars for a long time ( AFX ho size when I was younger , and that is enough info ) . It is a nice looking car but I might change the color of the car and maybe stripes and numbers when it comes down to it, as much info as I can get would be a big help. Thanks

Was able to get two more cars and they both have drive shafts, all I am looking for are the pros and cons with this type of car . Was planning on repainting the first one but now that I have a set of them I am going to leave them alone.

Empty a ball point pen ink cylinder, wash it out with isopropyl, then cut a short piece to replace that PIA spring. I think SCC has a replacement tube, so you can short cut that process quick and easy. When you get comfortable with such things, there are ways to convert cars to sidewinder or anglewinder configs, and you may want to play with that concept, too.

So, you can use those types of springs . That is good to know, I just hope no one gets mad at me for taking them, even when they are not dead.

If needed you can replace the spring that connects the motor shaft to the drive shaft using a piece if the ink tube from a ball point pen. But, the original springs are dependable - I've only had one out of 10 to 12 cars have the spring break in over 8 years. There should not be a lot of stress on the spring as long as the motor and drive shaft are properly aligned, and the motor isn't being stalled while sanding the rear tires.
If you want to be prepared, go ahead and order some replacement driveshaft springs from SCC.

Better for what? I don't know anyone who thinks slot cars with front motors and a drive shaft to turn the rear axle have any advantage over the other options.

How did this thread turn into a front motor discussion?

I was just asking questions about those types of cars because I have 5 of them now. Just trying to get as much info on them as I can
