Carrera wheels, the notches.

The notches in the raised center rib that is. Do I worry about them? Do I just glue tires onto trued wheels? Is there a simple process for "filling" the notches? I currently have a set of wheels that I filled the notches with Plastic Wood and I am waiting for this to dry, then I will re-true them. Or am I just wasting my time? Inquiring minds want to know.

I use Squadron Shop plastic putty but imagine it’s more a waste of time than anything to improve performance.

Don’t bother. Never filled or did anything with them. Just trued and installed new tires.

Well, I'll go against the grain. lol We run a lot of Carrera cars here at the shop. I fully recommend filling them in. We use thick super glue with a spray accelerator. Then hand file the high spots then true the wheel enough so it's smooth. On the D124 cars you can definitely tell a difference. My suggestion to you is, run the the/a car before and after and see if your lap times improve. If they do, then it's worth it to you. I don't run mine unless they're fill in. The cars have a slight bounce without. If you run magnets, the bounce is not as noticeable. We race non-mag so every imperfection stands out. We have plenty of tuning tips on our CincySlots YouTube channel for Carrera cars.

I agree with Bruce, left alone and I had noticeable dips where the notches are. Did the same fix, thick CA glue and accelerator and trued the wheels. Glued and trued the tires and they ran great (no mag)

Guess the 1/24 would be that way? Never noticed the issue on the 1/32. If the wheels were in that bad of shape, I just swapped the gear out.

Interesting approach though, maybe some photos of this process in action?

Thank you Bruce. Super Glue gel looks like the ticket to me. Plastic wood was an overnight dry, and is a bit crumbly. But you don't know till you try. I will have to do the front tire trick also. Now to go back to the video and find out what else I can learn. Muh, ha, ha, ha, ha...

Thanks again for the help!
