Just scored a couple of vintage Chaparral 2 kits

Postby viejoronnie » Sat Aug 18, 2018 1:16 pm

Got lucky this time: $6.50 for a Palmer and $9.99 for a Hawk.

Gonna use the various parts to cast and build several early race versions of the 2. The Palmer has a separate interior tub, with individual downdraft Webers, windscreen, and appears to be modeled after 1965 Sebring car. After looking at detailed pics of the kit...not the 65 Sebring car, as it doesn't have 4 headlights or the fender extension lips.

The Hawk is modeled after early 2A's (circa 63-64). I plan to use Monogram Cooper Cobra spoked
wheel inserts for the Chaparrals of that early era and a casting/vacuform of the Palmer windscreen.

Nice kits. The Palmer is basically the Monogram, and the Hawk is the early car. Those two and the Strombecker make a nice series, and the repop is closer to the later car.
Looking forward to seeing the builds!

The Strombecker is the '65 Sebring car...correct?

Well....it has the strakes along the wheel arches, but the Sebring cars didn't have those pointed vents on the front fenders; they weren't especially vented unlike the later cars.

I think I can fill those front fender vents from underneath and sand them down from the top of the fenders.
