NSR 917 Frustration!

Last March I bought an NSE Porsche 917 and it has been nothing but frustration to tune (magless). Have tried everything from 6-7 different tires (and brands), body/chassis adjustments, taping, glueing bearings and motor, glueing motor pod to chassis, etc etc.
It is not that the car is not fast, just very "sloppy" and tail happy in the turns. Running it on Scaley Sport Betrand variation track that is about 40' in length. I also have an NSR GT40 that with a little tuning runs smooth and fast, a joy. Out of frustration I took the chassis from one of my Thunderslot cars (which run fantastic) and taped it into the 917 body (it fits!). This combo runs beautiful!
Any advice?

What is your voltage at? Gear ratio, motor rpm, type of tires?

Hi Mike,
Standard 11/32, stock Shark 20,400. Tried PG, various Quick Slicks, glued and trued NSR & Thunderslot tires. Actually runs the smoothest with Slot.it PT1167P2's!
Voltage set at 10 volts. All virtually the same as my GT40 NSR, which runs great.
Thanks

What gear ratio are you at, also maybe try a Slot it Flat 6 Motor, check if the Chassis is true, completly strip it down and build up up with the parts from the car and use some of the tips listed here that should at least get you in the ballpark!! :D

Simple answer, throw away that chassis and build a new one.

I can't say that hasn't crossed my mind!

Thanks Indy500Lee - I thought I had checked the chassis a few months ago, but might strip it down this weekend again.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but have you checked the clearance under the chassis? This sounds to me like you are bottoming out somewhere, maybe in the turns as the car wrenches to the side it simply slips on its belly.

Yup - have checked and adjusted that - chassis is low, but clears
Thanks

Do you have access to a wood track? I'd be curious as to the comparison.

Had a bit of trouble with an NSR Porsche 997 and Corvette. I used some foam inserts on the air wheels (from Dennis Samson, aka gascarnut) and SlotIt P6 tires. Worked for me on a wood track.
Would be interested in a photo or diagram of the track.

Check the Porsche Ford wars, and Can Am Proxies, you may find some visual clues there. Yes the car should run VERY WELL on P6s. Plus are you using an EVO Chassis or the standard one with the floppy front?
Send pics if you decide you want out of it, I love em.

If the chassi is ok, flat and everything, i would take the motorpod combo from the GT 40. To me it sounds like bad motorpod.
Happy racing.

Hey Guys,
All good stuff - busy day today but tonight will get started trying these different things. Saw on one blog to swap out the front/back wheels and get rid of the air wheels on the back. Tried that last week and it did make a pretty significant change for the better. I had checked the chassis for flatness some time ago and it was good, but never checked the pod - will start with that tonight!
Thanks!

You might want to take a look at this article:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzLR42 ... sp=sharingFor non-magnet racing the front wheels need to be planted or the car will start to tip in the corners causing the inside rear wheel to lift, when that happens the back of the car will want to snap around. Put the car on the track or on a setup block and press down on the top of a front fender. If the rear wheel on the opposite side lifts off of the track your front end needs work.
If it was me I would switch to a 12 or 13 tooth pinion gear.
