Eldon track

I have been playing around with vintage Eldon Selectonic XLCs for adapting to my ac2car wired Artin track.

Today I received a couple of the 1965 Eldon "Speed Control" XLCs. The 1965 version of this XLC allows a car to make the lane change when traveling at speed. If the car is going slower it continues straight. No remote cable operators like on the 1963 Selectronic XLCs.

Upon looking at them it was apparent that the track surface finish is very similar/nearly identical to the Artin road surface, and very different from the smooth surface finish on the 1963 Eldon track.

While Eldon track has been derided because of its shallow slot depth and road surface finish, the 1965 stuff could do in a pinch for a home track, especially if one needs some straight pieces to supplement a supply of Artin straights and you trim the bottom of the guide. The track widths are very similar and the contact rail spacing matches well. Just make some adapter track using a few Artin track sections.

I have a bunch of Eldon curves gathering dust in a tote if you need any. I'd trade for 2 chickens and a ham sandwich.. Seriously it's not in big demand and I'm not ever going to use it. Some of them are really old Red Ungar curves but most are black. Might cost more to ship than it's worth though.

Yep, if Ungar, Eldon, and Cox track was metal, it would make a great boat anchor, surprising how much some people "think" its worth on epay.

The straights could make a good dragstrip though.

Other than the fact that there are no other radius curves, half straights or half curves and the groove isn't deep enough it's great stuff.. It's my opinion it was always intended just to be a kid's toy since they never made much effort to come out with anything useful. I use vintage Revell track for my 4 lane layout and it was hard enough gathering up the stuff to do that.

I'm only using a few of the Eldon "Speed Control" "Automatic" XLCs to graft into my Artin ac2car track. It works ok with modified Fly and Artin guides.
