removing magnets

Hi, New to the hobby and have questions, I want to remove magnets from some of our cars we run Carrera track can some one tell me where to start with weights how much and where we will start with some Torino stock car bodies or a link to a section pertaining to this topic

Weights can help with no mag as noted. But note that there is much more in the article about tuning other parts of the chassis and car before you ever get to weight.
Also note that sometimes a tire change makes all sorts of difference, eliminating the need for weight.

So tune everything else and then see how it runs before adding weight.

IMO, tires would be the number 1 item i'd start with, it transformed all my Carrera GT's and scaley GT's
I'm using PG tires, a great product and excellent service from the man himself.

Make sure you true and sand urethane tires....a smooth surface makes a significant difference in their grip and the car's performance. Harry is a better authority but several grits of wet/dry sandpaper polish them to a good surface, I believe.

That is true. The tire surface of a urethane can be a factor. We finish our tire sanding using 1000 or 1500 grit and apply a little water. On our wood track, the difference in the grip is very noticeable.

Thanks to RichD for the tuning/bulletproofing reference. As a returnee to slots after 50 years I thought I was just unlucky when I broke the guide flag holder on one Slot-it and the guide flag shaft on another. Will replace holder with brass as suggested. Also pulled magnets and am adjusting lead for my newly built wood track. Chose to use silicones-we’ll see how it goes :text-thankyouyellow:

No one has mentioned it so I will, as I have done this and it makes for much better racing... if you haven't already done so, change out your stock power supply for an adjustable one and set the voltage to 10 volts. Yes, it slows the cars down but it makes the whole setup as close to racing on wood but with plastic track. I did it with Ninco track - no mags, urethane tires and 10 volts power - makes a huge improvement. So much more enjoyable and most cars are still plenty fast at 10 volts.

On my 'dirt' routed oval I have the power supply set at 11 volts and all the cars work great and are much more fun to drive than when I was using Scalextric wall warts (16V). Thanks to silicone tires (work best for me on a slick surface) and reduced voltage the lack of magnetic down force is ideal because it's the setup of the cars and driving ability that matters.

Double yes on the adjustable power supply. This is the one I have and I love it. I can turn it down when the grandkids come over or other inexpirienced drivers . Including myself. This is the best piece of slot car equipment you can have in my opinion.
